Dear Parishioners and Friends,
The purpose of this letter is to formally introduce you to a huge
project we are about to undertake but, before I do that, let me “lay a
little groundwork”!
There are only two things that St. Katharine Drexel Parish is urgently
compelled to do.  The first is to help members of our parish grow in
discipleship through the established relationship they have with
Jesus Christ.  The second urgent thing we are called to do is to
bring other people into a relationship with God through his Son,
Jesus Christ so that they can become disciples!  Everything we do in
ministry is a fulfillment of those two urgent needs – that is our
mission.  The final thing I want point out in this “groundwork” is that
ministry always needs a place to happen!
The next phase in the growth of our parish is now underway.  Many
months and countless hours have gone in to preparing for the next
steps we will take to build our church facility to facilitate more and
better ministry!  We are on our way to fulfilling a “dream” we’ve had
since starting this parish over two years ago.
With this letter, I am sharing with you the news that the campaign to
raise the funds we need to expand our facilities is underway.  Our
campaign title is, “Foundation for the Future…Building a Community
with God”, a name that captures the essence of what we are
attempting to do. I hope it will serve as a “rallying cry” for our parish!
While the total dollars we will need to accomplish our plans have
been estimated to be $1,200,000, I do not want us to look upon that
amount as our “goal”.  Our goal is to share the vision of what God is
calling us to do with every member of our parish and hopefully
engage them in being a part of the fulfillment of that vision.  In other
words, our goal for this campaign is 100% participation –
‘Everybody Does Something.’
In the weeks ahead, you will be hearing a lot about “Foundation for
the Future…Building a Community with God” and you will be asked
to be a part of this campaign effort.  I ask you to be open to what
God is attempting to do in our parish and more specifically, to be
open to discerning the role He wants you to play in this effort.  If at
any time during the campaign you have questions about what we
are attempting to do, please know that I will welcome your call or
visit.  I am excited about our future and the opportunities God is
giving us to build a facility and therefore expand our reach and
ministry.  I pray that God will touch and bless every member of our
parish in the weeks ahead.

In Christ,

Rev. Joe Vogel,
Pastor

Prayer for Building a New Faith Community

God our Father, we thank you for
giving us the opportunity to help
build this community of faith.
Through the intercession of
St. Katharine Drexel, we offer our
prayers as we build a community to
promote, respect and preserve the
spiritual and moral good found in
all people.  May your Holy Spirit and
St. Joseph, the patron of workers,
guide our work and efforts to build
a house of God that is pleasing to
You and inviting to all people of faith.
We ask this through Your Son. Our Lord
Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with
You and the Holy Spirit, one God
for ever and ever. Amen

The altar is a solid stone slab resting on two vertical stone slabs and weighs

apse of the church. The tabernacle is over 70 years old and was reclaimed
from a parish that closed in Quincy, IL.
Our Rose window, an image of our patroness, St. Katharine
Drexel, was installed in mid-February. The window was designed
